Who Uses the EDP? An Introduction to Architecture

We’re now shifting gears to put what we explored about the engineering design process to practice in an activity for youth.

During this section we will follow the flow of a lesson called the Spaghetti Marshmallow Design Challenge to give you a sense of what it is like to experience the lesson as a student, before you lead it as an educator. Throughout this section we will also create reflection opportunities for you to consider the decisions you will make when you are facilitating the activity.

Now let’s hear from Jeran Halfpap at the New York Hall of Science to learn more about the field of architecture, which is featured in this lesson plan.

Now that you’ve heard Jeran’s explanation of architecture...

How might you introduce this STEM field to young people in your afterschool program?
